- 404
- Refers to an Error Page which can often be customized (e.g. - "The page you requested was not found on this server")
- B2B
- Business to Business - sales transaction(s) between businesses
- B2C
- Business to Customer (or Consumer) - sales transaction(s) between a business and a person.
- bot
- A program used by search engines to locate websites and store the indexable content of the pages found.
- CSS
- Cascading Style Sheets - makes the look and feel of web pages easier work with.
- IP
- Internet Provider - Same as ISP
- ISP
- Internet Service Provider - the business providing access to the internet.
- IT
- Information Technology - a frequently used way of referring to the computer department in a company.
- PPC
- Pay Per Click - a type of advertising service with some search engine where you pay a premium each time someone clicks on a link to your website.
- PR
- Page Rank - Google's method of systematically assigning importance or relevance to a page because of what other pages link to that page.
- ROI
- Return on Investment - A positive ROI means you're getting more out of an effort that you are putting into it. A negative one probably means you're bleeding green!
- SE
- Search Engine - Like Google, Bing, Yahoo, Lycos, etc.
- SEO
- Search Engine Optimization - Changes to the code that web pages are made of so that the SE's will put those pages higher in the search results that web surfers see.
- SERP
- Search Engine Results Page - refers to the position (from the top) of your web site when you try to find it on a search engine
- Spider
- the act of indexing content from the pages found at a website.
- URL
- Uniform Resource Locator - a shorthand, but fancy way of saying "web address"
